Almost Asleep

By Julie Hébert
Directed by Steve Rotolo
CWT and
Molasses Tank Productions present the New England
premier of
Almost Asleep by Julie Hébert.
Almost Asleep is a whispered opera of the mind. Five female characters
represent different aspects of one woman's mind as she falls asleep one night after a confusing, humiliating encounter
with her male employer earlier that day. In this semi-conscious state, she battles with herself, and accidentally
triggers the release of long-repressed events.
Last season
Molasses Tank Productions
collaborated with local sculptor Pat Keck to create the acclaimed
Acts of Futility.
"Masterfully constructed."
- The Bay Guardian
"The writing is powerful, shocking, candid."
- Variety
Almost Asleep represents an ongoing focus by Molasses Tank Productions on
plays by recognized playwrights whose relevant
works are rarely seen in the Boston metro area. Founded in 1998 by Steve Rotolo and Duncan McCullough, Molasses Tank
Productions is an ensemble theatre group that attempts to make its performances contribute in a visible way to the
quality of life in both the city and the region. The company is dedicated to a rigorous exploration of ideas through
in-depth rehearsals and close engagement with theatrical texts. MTP has distinguished itself by bringing artistic quality
and professionalism to plays that audiences won’t see anywhere else.
Julie Hébert is a writer/director who started in San Francisco
with the Eureka Theater, the Magic Theater and
